Supporting the career development of researchers
About the Concordat, Wellcome's commitment and what we expect from the people we fund.
Our position on the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.
Wellcome is a signatory of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.
Revised in September 2019, the Concordat is an agreement between employers and research funders. It aims to improve the employment and support for researchers and researcher careers in higher education in the UK. It also sets out the conditions required to create the very best culture in which researchers can thrive.
The Concordat has three defining principles:
- environment and culture
- employment
- professional and career development.
These principles are underpinned by the responsibilities of the four key stakeholder groups:
- researchers
- managers of researchers
- institutions
- funders.
Wellcome is committed to meeting the obligations for funders, as set out in the Concordat. We expect anyone with Wellcome funding, who is based in the UK, to meet the responsibilities required by the Concordat for institutions, managers and researchers.
Anyone with Wellcome funding who is based outside the UK is expected, at a minimum, to follow the principles of the Concordat.
