Professor Miranda Wolpert MBE is the Director of Mental Health at Wellcome, a global charitable foundation which supports science to solve urgent health challenges.
Mental Health at Wellcome aims to find, fund and convene scientists and others to support the development of effective intervention to stop the escalation of Anxiety, Depression and Psychosis before they become lifelong, debilitating conditions which hold people back from achieving their life goals and contributing to society.
To do this involves considering how brain, body and environment interact in mental health problems; understanding how interventions work and enabling connections and shared metrics across the full breadth of the Mental Health science community, including drawing on the expertise of those with lived experience of mental health problems.
Our Director of Mental Health shares the thinking behind what Wellcome wants to achieve in the mental health space in the next 30 years, and how.
Miranda has a background as a clinician working for many years in child and family mental health in the NHS and has also worked as a policy advisors on mental health and informatics in the UK.
Miranda retains her position as Professor in Evidence Based Research and Practice at UCL where her research focuses on measuring outcomes of mental health treatments and making use of flawed data.
Miranda was awarded an MBE for her services to children and young people’s mental health in 2017.
