Professor Miranda Wolpert MBE is the Director of Mental Health at Wellcome, a global charitable foundation which supports science to solve urgent health challenges.
Miranda joined Wellcome in 2019 to oversee a £200 million programme to help develop a new generation of treatments and approaches for young people with anxiety and depression. Her role was expanded in 2020, and she now leads all of Wellcome’s work on mental health, where our vision is of a world where no one is held back by mental health problems.
Miranda is also Professor in Evidence Based Research and Practice at University College London (UCL). She founded the Evidence Based Practice Unit dedicated to bridging research and practice in youth mental health. Between 2012 and 2019, she was NHS England’s National Informatics Advisor for Children and Young People’s Mental Health.
Our Director of Mental Health shares the thinking behind what Wellcome wants to achieve in the mental health space in the next 30 years, and how.
Miranda worked for many years as a clinical psychologist in the NHS and in schools. In 2017, she was awarded an MBE for her services to children and young people’s mental health.
Outside work, she is a keen open water swimmer and, on occasion, can be found bobbing with seals in various coastal locations.
